"The purpose of art is to lay bare the questions that have been hidden by the answers." James Baldwin
Art about money can illustrate how people think about money.
Often, when thinking about money, a person imagines the results of its ownership or use. Just as an artist’s representation of a thing is not the thing itself, so the imagined effects or benefits of money are not money itself. Just as paint represents emotions such as love, gratitude, desire for beauty, or lust for power, just so do one’s thoughts about money reveal drives for security, love, independence, strength or freedom from worry. Peoples’ motivations regarding money – both explicit and subconscious - can exert significant influence on their goals, objectives, decisions, actions – indeed, all financial behaviors – and therefore, outcomes.
Our collection of money art, a portion of which appears on our website, illustrates many aspects of the character of money, from light to dark, from humorous to serious. We hope that it stimulates thought about its subject and that the thought will contribute to insight.
